2007 Hope Luncheon
The 2007 Annual Journey of Hope Luncheon was held on Saturday, November 3rd at Windows on the River. If you are interested in attending our 2008 luncheon, please call our office at 216-262-0612 or email administrator@johcleveland.org.
The keynote speaker at the 2007 luncheon was Timothy O’Brien, MD, Director, Cancer Care Center, Metro Health Medical Center. Additional highlighted speakers included Janice Lyons, MD, Director, Radiation Oncology Breast Service, University Hospitals and Chef Michael Lyons who provided tips on healthy lifestyle cooking. Medical student, Rhashedah Ekeoduru, told her story on how JOH and RAI's (Rise Above It) joint-funding assisted her.
Raffle and silent auction items included various products donated by the many generous businesses in our area. A professional weaver from the Longaberger Company was present and provided a demonstration. If you or your business are interested in donating products for the 2008 luncheon, please contact us at 216-262-0612. We hope to see you in November!
It's All About the Bling!
August 22 was the date and the Cleveland Yachting Club was the setting for the first ever “Bling for Hope” event. Over 65 people attended this unique fundraising event to benefit patients of Journey of Hope. Silpada sales consultant and long time JOH supporter, Julia Caputo, displayed over 100 pieces of beautiful silver and gemstone jewelry from the brand new 2007-08 catalog. Julia generously donated all proceeds from the evening to support our cancer patients. Predictions indicate that JOH will be able to fund four cancer patients from the proceeds.
Guests were treated to a martini bar, compliments of Colleen Gosselin and NDC General Wine & Spirits. Even though the temperature climbed into the 90’s, everyone relaxed and enjoyed the outdoors and the great success of this festive evening. Thank you to all who attended and a special thanks for your continued support of our mission.
Journey of Hope "Tom Olson" Golf Classic
The Second Annual Tom Olson Classic proved to be another success! Guest emcee and honorary chairman, Tony Rizzo, was busy with Cavaliers playoff activities, but was still able to host his ESPN 850 WKNR morning sports talk show live from our outing at Red Tail. Andy Baskin of NewsChannel 5 and WQAL’s Allan Fee stepped in and served as our guest emcees – taking us from a great day on the course, to a fun and lucrative program after dinner. Thanks to Tony, Andy and Allen for sharing their time and talents with us.
Without our returning title sponsors – Gary Brahler, Many Glynias, Mark Marinik, Steve Martino and Chris Zito - JOH could never have achieved success again. These gentlemen were Tom Olson’s best friends and their continued dedication to his memory, his family and to this event is greatly appreciated.
Joining us as sponsors were Joe and Pete Minotti of Minotti’s Wine & Spirits, Brian McBride of Westlake Express/Westlake Cab and the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center–we thank them for their continued support.
Thank you to all participants for their support as we raised approximately $18,000. Next year’s date has been set for Monday, May 19th - we look forward to hosting the event at Red Tail once again. Thank you to Chari Zito and Shawna Hofstetter for their excellent service as the outing co-chairs. They have made the past two years fantastic. If you are interested in participating on the committee for the 2008 outing, please call the JOH office at 216/262-0612.
A sincere thank you to everyone who made this event great!
Ride for Hope 2007
The 2007Annual Ride for Hope, sponsored by the Ohio Troopers Coalition, WNCX 98.5 and The Irish Heritage Center in Avon Lake was held on Sunday, July 1, 2007. On the Edge motorcycle dealership owner, Dale Barris, kicked off the poker run on a day filled with sunshine and gleaming motorcycles. Over 100 riders came out to support the cause. A candlelight ceremony, presented by Officer Jim Kamholz of the Sheffield Lake Police, was held in honor and memory of Ohio State troopers who lost their lives in the line of duty, all military personnel and all cancer patients. A lively band supplied the music while the attendees were treated to a plentiful buffet, opportunities to bid on exciting raffle items and a 50/50 drawing. Proceeds from the day totaled close to $5,500 to assist cancer patients with their critical survival needs.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped Journey of Hope!
